Trimmed with Love
Paper chains, popping corn,
Tinfoil stars the tree adorn.
Colored lights ~ red, green and blue ~
Ribbons, garlands strung on, too.
Candy canes and gingerbread
Tied with pretty bows of red.
Hung up high and nestled low,
Bits of glass wink and glow.
Special treasures made with care,
Fill the gaps of branches bare:
A child’s handprint cast and set,
A son whose joy I’ll not forget.
An angel made of doily lace
With daughter’s happy, smiling face.
A little nest, a bird of peace,
A first-grade project from my niece.
Button beads painted gold,
Dearest gift from friend of old.
Sugared pine cones twist and sway,
Sent by loved ones far away.
Precious things that call to mind
People, places, special times.
How sweet it is to share with thee
Cherished memories on the tree.
