Jessica Designs ~ Healthy Nails (1)

Jessica Guyton has graciously agreed to write a short series of “nail health” posts, complete with product recommendations for strengthening and growing healthier nails.  This is her first installment.

There are a lot of tips to maintaining your nails….  I work in food service and, in just a year’s time, my nails have gone from long and hard to weak, peeling and breaking everyday.  And let’s face it:  Once you break a nail there’s really nothing you can do except cut it off and start over.  The trick is to keep nails healthy and strong.

I would like to share a product line I recently discovered.  I’d been wanting to try a new basecoat and nail strengthener because my nails needed some TLC and because the bottles I had were old and “gloopy.”  Since I am on a tight budget (and didn’t want to spend a lot), I wanted to see if price REALLY mattered.

While shopping for Christmas gifts at K-Mart, I decided to take a walk down the cosmetics aisle.  Earlier that day I had been watching a YouTube guru talk about a nail polish by Jordana ~ one that dries hard and completely sets in 6 minutes.

Unfortunately, K-Mart did not have the miracle nail polish.  But they did have Jordana Strengthener, Basecoat and Topcoat for just $1.99 each.  Wow!

Before I made my finally decision, I looked at the Sally Hansen selection.  I have used Sally Hansen products before (and still do); but it had been awhile.  I was shocked at how expensive they are now.  I was also overwhelmed by the huge selection so many varieties.  It seemed like each product did the same thing ~ except one had a fancy bottle or vitamin beads or claimed that you would have hard nails in 7 days.

So I thought to myself “Why spend $10 when I can try something similar for $1.99?”

I ended up buying Jordana Nails Be Strong, Jordana Garlic Growth Basecoat and Jordana Quick Dry Topcoat.  And I spent a whopping $6.00.

Let me begin by telling you I was skeptical.  I really wasn’t expecting too much from the nail polish.  But after just a few weeks, I am happy to report that my nails really are longer and stronger.

When I am doing a manicure, I apply the Jordana Garlic Growth Basecoat first, followed by the strengthener, my nail color of choice and, finally, the top coat.  The Jordana line is TFF & DBP free.  You won’t find any funky products (like formaldehyde or added solvents) in any of them.

Final verdict:  This trio is worth a try.

Sounds interesting. Could you report on how long it keeps the color on without chipping?

  2. Jessica says

Gabrielle, because the product does not contain TFF or DBP the chip resistance is not as well as some of the other ones. From what I could read DBP and TFF is a compound that holds the product longer to your nails, it acts as a chemical bonding agent. This line is one that is great for people who have sensitivity to nail polish. I am not a big fan of their top coat because it smears my designs, so I am sticking with Seche Vite until I find something better, but I will still be testing top coats to find the Holy Grail product.
